Oh, amaro, that dark, often bitter beloved of bartenders the world over. It runs the gamut from intensely bitter and medicinal all the way to fragrant and candy-like, and has been lauded as a hangover cure, considered the bartender’s handshake, and was the only spirit category allowed under Prohibition (as medicine)! Our That's Amaro! Box introduced the complex and mysterious spirit and tamed it for subscribers' enjoyment.
The public television music program Austin City Limits helped the city of Austin earn the title of “Live Music Capital of the World” and spawned an annual festival that happens each October—a very busy time for Austin and its bartenders. The Austin Without Limits Box gave subscribers a taste of Austin’s drinking culture with recipes from three top-notch Austin bartenders that were specially engineered to work with either bourbon or aged tequila—drinker's choice!
When the days of summer start to cool, we all get the urge for one last getaway—so we invited you to Rum Away with us! This box featured flavors that bring out the best in rum: almond and chocolate, coffee and smoky spice. And when mixed with the simple sweetness of peach and cinnamon in a daiquiri—well, let’s just say this was a vacation we never wanted to end.
What makes “gin” gin? The only real requisite is the distilling of a neutral grain alcohol with juniper. What distinguishes the various gins from one another, on the other hand, is a far more interesting question! With so many distinct flavors, no two gins are truly alike, which makes for an amazing range of what we can do with this beautiful spirit—and the Use Your ImaGINation Box was a great opportunity to experiment!
Hot summer nights call for the spirit of the Incan gods: pisco, one of the purest spirits known to humans. The only thing that enters the bottle is the grapes—and nothing else can be added, not even water. The result is the remarkably delicious and shockingly versatile unaged Peruvian brandy—the next big thing in the cocktail world!
Sake (the Japanese fermented rice liquor) is quickly becoming popular among bartenders due to its intense umami-ness (the fifth taste), complex flavor profile, and increasing availability, and variety here in the US. Since many people still haven’t discovered sake libations, though, we thought we'd help them do so—with the Sake It To Me Box!
The town of Tequila, Mexico—where the spirit we so love gets its name—is surrounded by a red volcanic soil, in which blue agave grows in abundance. After it's harvested, the blue agave's juice is extracted, fermented, and distilled, at which point it becomes tequila blanco. This spirit—along with the flavors of central Mexico—were our focus in the Agave Blanco Box.
Using vodka as a blank canvas, three cocktail works of art made our taste buds rejoice by bringing spring flavors to the fore.

Just in time for St. Paddy's Day, this box thoroughly explored Irish whiskey with drinks that ran the gamut from light and refreshing to heavier and smokier. Newcomers to Ireland’s “water of life” and connoisseurs were both likely to have their expectations upended by these recipes. Sláinte agus táinte!
Since the afterparty is often so much cooler than the actual event, we figured out a way to put all that leftover New Year's bubbly to good use and make the second month of the year more spectacular than the first with February’s Afterparty Box!
