Subscribe by March 31 to start with the Vermouth: Never Uncouth Box. Shipping the week of April 1!
Recommended liquor: So that you can start mixing your cocktails as soon as your box arrives, why not go get your bottle of Irish whiskey now? We have three recommendations for you. Any of them will work well for all three recipes found in this box, depending on your preference:
The Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey. Literally just launched from the brilliant minds behind the World's Best Bar (2016, 2015)—The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog! The taste is Irish whiskey heart with a burst of bourbon vanilla attitude. Read more about their process and then check here for availability—you can buy locally in NY and NJ, or have it shipped to other states.
Redbreast 12-Year Irish Whiskey. The richness of pot-stilled Redbreast 12's texture and the strong fruit notes from its being aged in sherry barrels make it the ideal candidate for these late-winter/early-spring cocktails, and its natural spice lends the drinks real spine. Full-bodied Irish whiskey is a great aid for surviving the last of a long winter, and Redbreast is absolutely in the vanguard of bottlings that help define the category.
Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey. Triple-distilled in typical Irish fashion, D.E.W. is a blend of the three styles of Irish whiskey: single pot still, single grain, and single malt. Great for mixing, with a boldness that will shine through—and budget friendly as well!
Recommended amount: To make all 12 drinks, you'll need 22 oz of Irish whiskey; a medium (750 ml) bottle will be your best bet.
Recommended barware: A few different jiggers that measure 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1 1/2, and 2 oz, as well as a shaker, strainer, muddler, bar spoon, mixing glass, and citrus reamer or juicer . Additionally, if your fridge doesn't have a crushed ice option and you can't get pebble ice at the store, you'll need to make your own and can use either aLewis bag and wooden mallet or a Ziploc freezer bag and another blunt kitchen object, such as a pestle. These are not all strictly necessary, but will improve your mixology experience.
Recommended glassware: Coupe, rocks glass, and double rocks glass
Recommended ice: To make all 12 cocktails in one go, you'll need about 5 pounds of ice (5 ice trays’ worth).
And one more recommendation: This month you'll also need to have four raw egg whites on hand in order to make the Tea & Honey cocktail. Unfortunately we're not able to ship those in the box. For a vegan alternative, we found that Ms. Better's Miraculous Foamer works, well, miraculously!
